Amanda Seales Set the Record Straight on Her Parents, Heritage, and Autism Diagnosis

One of the nice “Mothers” of modern day pop culture is Amanda Seales. She didn’t simply star in HBO’s Insecure, however she’s also a podcaster, a comedian, an activist, and an expert on Black culture in America. On the April 24 episode of Club Shay Shay, Amanda spoke out about her fresh autism spectrum prognosis and how her parents raised her with out realizing about her inner enjoy.

Amanda opened up to Shannon Sharpe about the various tactics in which she skilled racism, which sooner or later led her to primary in African-American Studies with a concentration in hip-hop at Columbia University. Amanda Seales’s mother, Annette Seales, used to be at all times supportive of her.

One main controversy that has continued to observe Amanda is that folks suspect she isn’t absolutely Black. When talking about her ASD diagnosis, Amanda shared how her mom is West Indian and the way she used to be an incredibly supportive guardian. “In this revelation, my mother started looking up symptoms of autistic youngsters and was like, ‘Oh s--t, you exhibited all of this. But I didn’t know what to do with this,’” Amanda said.

“She’s a unmarried mum or dad, she’s seeking to figure it out, but I actually simply thank my mom as a result of when my mom couldn’t show up for me emotionally, I noticed that she was ready to, at the very least — that’s not even fair to say. She was once able to nonetheless let me be who I am as an alternative of beating it out of me, which occurs to such a lot of youngsters who're misunderstood,” Amanda added.

“And she’s West Indian,” Amanda stated prior to saying something in Grenadian Creole, “So I’m like over here being this precocious, loquacious child that’s all the time speaking and so they’re telling her, ‘Why are you at all times simply letting her do all this speaking and all that? She’s too fresh,’ and my mother was once like, ‘That’s Amanda. Let her reside!’”

Amanda’s father wasn’t as present in her existence as her mom.

While we know little about Amanda’s father, she has shared bits and items about him. He is of African-American descent and grew up in Boston. But because Amanda used to be raised mostly by her mother, we know much more about her. On Father’s Day in 2018, Amanda even tweeted a photograph of her two Black parents to prove the haters improper.

“Happy Father’s Day to all the dads that show up EVERY day, now not only for ‘circle of relatives’ photos,” she wrote, taking a jab at her father, who confirmed up for the picture shared. “Real Ones, You don’t get sufficient popularity, but you’re integral to shaping young hearts and minds into cast thoughtful adults…”

On Club Shay Shay, Amanda published that she’s if truth be told grateful her dad wasn’t in the home. “If my father had lived with me, I'd by no means had been the person I am now as a result of he wouldn’t have been in a position to maintain it. And I believe that he is autistic too,” she published. “He’s sensible, he used to be just by no means observed the way in which he needed to be observed so it became narcissism.”
