Dirty John is based on a true story, but what characters are genuine and which are made up?
Our new obsession Dirty John is one among a handful of TV series in 2018 based on popular podcasts. Unlike Amazon's Homecoming, Bravo's new drama is based on the actual story of John Meehan, a criminal and con-artist played via Eric Bana, and his courting with entrepreneur Debra Newell, portrayed by Connie Britton of Friday Night Lights and Nashville reputation.
While many of the solid of characters stick with the names and outlines of their real-life opposite numbers, this is a Hollywood dramatization, and there are a few liberties. So here's a breakdown of which Dirty John figures are genuine life characters and which are both fictionalized or completely made up.

John Meehan — Real
The name persona is, unfortunately, a real individual. And I say unfortunately because his personality was once by no means just right. The nurse anesthetist masqueraded as a doctor, stole pain drugs from post-operative sufferers to gasoline his opiate addiction, defrauded and/or stalked a couple of ladies, and conspired to kidnap and homicide his ultimate wife's daughter, Terra Newell.
Debra Newell — Real
Connie's personality Debra also doesn't stray from her real-life character much. They are each a success ladies dwelling in Orange County. Both Debbies run a trade that performs interior design, custom furniture, and home staging. However, the actual Debra's business is called Ambrosia Interior Design, while Bravo Deb's corporate is called Madeira Interiors.
Veronica Newell — Not genuine
In real existence, Debra Newell has four children from previous marriages, even though her two youngest, Terra and Jacquelyn, are the two who issue primarily in the story that spread out on the podcast. Jacquelyn is particularly absent from the Bravo sequence, then again, and has been changed with Veronica, performed by way of Juno Temple.
Many things about Veronica's story in the dramatization reflect Jacquelyn's, who used to be in an instant distrustful of her mother's new boyfriend. However, it is safe to say the writers took some liberties to make the fictional version of Jacquelyn their own. Also, whilst Debra used to be in therapy for a time with one in all her daughters, it was in truth along with her youngest, Terra.
Terra Newell — Real
Debra's youngest daughter, Terra, is also a real-life person. Like her dramatized counterpart, she labored for a veterinary administrative center when the events of the collection came about and lived together with her boyfriend and canine, an Australian shepherd named Cash. She's also a giant fan of The Walking Dead, and that bit of trivialities will change into necessary toward the climax of the limited collection.
Terra is portrayed by way of Julia Garner (Martha Marcy May Marlene, Ozark) within the sequence.
Jimmy — Real(?)
Terra's boyfriend (in the beginning of the story) is a real particular person, but his ultimate name is now not revealed in the Dirty John podcast or the LA Times print collection and he doesn't appear to have been interviews for the longform investigative pieces.
The cut up appears to had been amicable. During the time Terra started to fear for her lifestyles (with motive, it could turn out), she even left a word in her drawer saying if the rest came about to her, she wanted Jimmy to get Cash.

Arlane Hart — Real
