When fans first see Steve in Season 4, he's going thru a crisis in his love lifestyles. Graduation from high school is ever-looming, and Steve doesn't know if he desires a girlfriend to take with him to college. Steve and Robin are each operating at the local video store and commiserating when the plot kicks them into high gear.
Steve and Robin lend a hand the children monitor down Eddie Munson, a brand new character who has been accused of murdering native cheerleader Chrissy. Unfortunately, they quickly learn that Chrissy has been murdered by way of the new villain of Season 4, Vecna, who is "cursing" participants of town and killing them to feed his nefarious functions.
Steve, Robin, Dustin, and Max run into Nancy investigating Eddie's uncle after a 2nd murder. Steve, Dustin and Lucas help Max struggle her curse whilst Nancy and Robin communicate to Victor Creel, who skilled Vecna's curse himself. Steve and Nancy hint at residual feelings for each and every other, particularly in the absence of Jonathan. The workforce also investigates the outdated Creel House together and discovers Vecna has been lurking there in the Upside Down.
Eventually, Steve, Dustin, Max, Robin, Lucas, Eddie, and Nancy embark on a hike to check out and discover a "gate" into the Upside Down and they locate one in Lover's Lake. Steve provides to dive all the way down to get entry to the gate but will get dragged beneath via one of the most Upside Down's population, prompting Nancy, Robin, and Eddie to jump in and rescue him.
Steve's attack by the Upside Down creatures leaves him with an unpleasant wound, even if he in the end survives. It gave the look of Steve was in grave risk between episodes, but leisure assured, when Season 4 Part 1 ends, Steve is OK, simply stuck in the Upside Down after Vecna snatches Nancy.
