To some, Dan Dotson is as synonymous with Storage Wars as the garage units themselves. Although other auctioneers have popped in from time to time, Dan and his wife, Laura Dotson, were part of the sequence since its inaugural season. But some enthusiasts nonetheless ponder whether Dan Dotson is a real auctioneer outside of Storage Wars.

He added that he believes the show is what he and Laura had been "destined to do."

In a May 2021 episode of Storage Wars, Dan appeared with a bandaged hand. This led lovers to marvel what took place and if he had someway lost a finger. Well, they were not some distance off.
