It seems like for the reason that beginning of The Resident, we’ve been cheering for the relationship between Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Nic Nevin (Emily VanCamp).
And right as the whole thing coated up for them they usually have been after all set on the trail of fortunately ever after, in got here a twist. Hearts had been damaged, lovers were offended, and Conrad is in a spiral. So why did The Resident kill off Nic? It was once their most suitable choice.
Why did ‘The Resident’ kill off Nic Nevin?
Season Four was a challenging one for Nic, who had fought through a number of drama. She was stabbed whilst pregnant, and each she and the infant she was once sporting nearly died. They both pulled thru, however it used to be shut.
When Nic welcomed her child, Georgina Grace Hawkins, it felt like the entirety used to be falling into position perfectly. She was wholesome, her baby used to be wholesome, and things have been going smartly with Conrad. And then Season 5 premiered.
In the first episode, we came upon quickly that we had been prone to have our hearts broken. Nic wasn’t in the first episode, but her absence was explained. She used to be said to be on a retreat, a planned shuttle so to spend a while taking good care of her health. Nic had just had a baby after all, so it made sense.
Then the second one episode aired, and fact crashed down with it. In Episode 2, lovers learned that their worries for Nic have been right. The final message Conrad received from his spouse mentioned she was once almost house. And then he heard nothing.

— The Resident (@ResidentFOX) October 6, 2021 Source: TwitterNic used to be such a very powerful persona in the show, so why was once she killed off? It actually used to be the best and most effective option after Emily VanCamp printed that it was once time for her to leave the series.
Why did Emily VanCamp leave 'The Resident'?
Emily’s exit used to be her decision and it had nothing to do with the process and everything to do along with her personal existence. She was pregnant in actual existence and enjoying a pregnant person allowed her to stay that truth to herself for a while. As a new mother, she sought after to place her focal point on that.
“It’s any such bittersweet moment for me. I cherished doing The Resident such a lot for the four years I was on it,” Emily told Deadline. “Oftentimes you hear about someone exiting a display as a result of one thing dangerous had happened or there was once some bad blood. But on this case, it’s the complete opposite.”
For her, it was once a respectful determination that was once made with love. “There’s nothing however love and respect between all folks and this determination used to be no longer a very simple one for anyone, nevertheless it was the best one for me, in my opinion,” Emily added. “I’m thankful that I used to be met with understanding and compassion.”
She continued, “We started talking about [my leaving] awhile ago. I spent so many years on network television, but then unexpectedly priorities shifted. I believe there comes a moment in each woman’s existence — in each individual’s life — where it turns into much less about work and more about family, and that’s what came about whilst I was making the display.”
The showrunners knew she sought after to leave. And they revered that. But it intended they needed to have the option to shift the character. They may just either have Nic be played through another actor or leave Conrad and Gigi, which works towards her character. Or she could die.
Having the character die was the best choice with the choices they'd, which allowed them to be respectful to Emily — and to Nic too. While Nic might be very much missed, there is something sure in knowing that she died saving other people, moderately than doing one thing that may've long gone in opposition to her character.
Season Five of The Resident airs Tuesdays at Eight p.m. EST on Fox.
